SOUTH AUSTRALIA WORKS IN THE REGIONS

Links people with skills and employment 

South Australia Works links people with skills and jobs. It brings together education, training and employment services to ensure all South Australians have the opportunity to develop work skills and get a job. By working in partnership with all levels of government, industry and the community, South Australia Works:-

  • Provides training and employment opportunities for people who are having trouble improving their skills or finding a job

  • Assists local communities to address the learning and work needs of individuals within their communities

  • Helps maximize the number of jons associated with industry and government plans and projects

  • Links businesses with the skilled workers they need.

South Australia Works focuses especially on the needs of:-

  • Mature aged people - providing training, up-skilling and employment programs for mature aged workers and job seekers

  • Indigenous people - providing support, job training, work placements, recruitment, leadership training, career enhancement and traineeships and apprenticeships

  • Regions - helping regional organisations and networks to identify their region's training and employment needs, and to address them in ways appropriate to each region

  • Young people - giving young people skills and opportunities to move successfully from school, further education and training or unemployment, into stable, rewarding work

  • Industry - identifying new employment and training possibilities and develop the skills sets of people to meet emerging workforce needs

  • Public sector - providing opportunities to train and work in the public sector, especially for people who are disadvantaged in the job market and

  • Communities - creating opportunities for learning for individuals in their communities.

South Australia Works operates in the regions through seventeen Employment and Skills Formation Netowrks. These Networks consist of people from the local community, industry, regional economic bodies and Commonwealth, State and Local Governments.

Employment and Skills Formation Networks have been established to:-

  • Consult with the local community on employment and skills formation issues

  • Develop partnerships which ensure that all the expertise and resources available in the regions are used and

  • Develop regional Employment and Skills Formation Plans that address the local training employment needs of individuals and industry.

South Australia Works supports regional organisations and networks identify their region's training and employment needs, and to address them in ways appropriate to each region.

 

The Limestone Coast 2008/09 Employment and Skills formation Plan builds on initiatives undertaken in the 2007/08 Plan and provides avenues for addressing regional needs. The plan responds to needs associated with the three dimensions of; employment and skills formation, social inclusion and economic development. The Plan incorporates key elements of South Australia's Strategic Plan and Local strategic plans including the Limestone Coast Regional Development Board's Strategic Plan.

 

The Limestone Coast 2008/09 Employment and Skills Formation Plan focuses on:-

Workforce Development - build an appropriately skilled workforce for the Limestone Coast

Innovation - support entrepreneurship, enterprise and self employment

Career Development - enable individuals to develop their careers

Learning Culture - grwo community capacity through ongoing learning

 

The Key objectives of South Australia Works in the Regions are:-

  • To enhance the level or effectiveness of Government programs that are delivered in regions

  • To increase employment and skills formation outcomes at a regional level

  • To build the capacity of regional communities to achieve sustainable outcomes from their employment and skills formation initiatives

  • To ensure that resources are distributed sccording to Government priorities and the needs identified in regions

  • To minimise disparities between regions by directing resources to areas of greatest socio-economic disadvantage.
